How to draw a tundra: easy ways of drawing and a master class for children
Books and movies show the tundra region as a vast, snow-covered expanse through which reindeer sleds travel with the natives.
However, this northern region is not characterized by impersonality or monotony; it transforms beyond recognition at different seasonal times, captivating, touching and impressing with its majestic and natural beauty, which professional painters have captured on their canvases.
How to paint the tundra
It is impossible to reproduce what you have never seen; first of all, you have to look at photographs or reproductions to understand the peculiarities of the landscape of the north. The local landscape changes depending on the season, enriching it with new details. You can enliven the sketch with local flora and fauna, water bodies, dwarf trees.
Information
If you ask your child to draw how I imagine the tundra, he won't be able to do the task without familiarizing himself with this natural region.
These lands are characterized by a long winter, with semi-annual snow cover, when temperatures can exceed -50 degrees. During the short summer, the soil does not have time to warm up, keeping the frost half a meter deep, that is, the permafrost.
Despite the difficult climatic conditions, some plant species grow here, there are no tall trees, but there are their small varieties. Not every living creature can withstand such a way of life, but animals are found nevertheless. A unique phenomenon of nature - the northern lights - looks spectacular.
Initial steps
First study the photo or pictures, choosing the season and objects that will be present in the picture. On the whiteness of the plain it is appropriate to depict a yaranga, a tent-triangle made of animal skins - this is the home of the Nenets.
People can go fishing, sit by the fire, herd reindeer. They are dressed in specific national clothing malitsa, it is a long coat-shirt with fur trim, ornaments, and high boots on their feet.
Aborigines can be displayed in the traditional folk dance with tambourines in their hands. It is not forbidden to sketch a subject from a picture you like.
Watercolor
Sketching is performed by dry or wet method, beginners artists choose the first method. The initial stage is a sketch, sketched with a pencil, and then produce a coloring with honey watercolors or a professional set.
A pencil technique that suggests how you can draw a tundra:
- The horizon line drawn should not be straight due to the landscape hillyness.
- Mountains and a lake are outlined.
- Plagues and their inhabitants are drawn.
Further, coloring is performed. The main thing is not to overdo it with water on the brush so that there are no smudges, in a pinch, they are removed with a squeezed out tool.
Simple suggestions
In winter, the northern expanses are immersed in the lingering polar night, acquiring a kind of gloominess, so use muted tones:
- The skies have a gray-blue tone, for which they mix tints;
- the work starts from the top of the sheet, approaching the horizon, the color becomes lighter;
- mountainous elements have a white or pale blue hue, and snowdrifts are accentuated with blue.
If lopar inhabitants are present, their attire is colored as desired.
Autumn
During this season, which lasts from August to October, the hilly surface is covered with red, green, orange, yellow islands of rosemary, lichen, soft jaggery on the background of rocks. Miniature birches flutter in the wind like a gold fire, and a thin brush is used to detail the trunks and branches.
You can show berry placers of blueberries, cloudberries, cranberries, grow here and mushrooms. On the blue skies leave gaps of white clouds. Black paint is not recommended, avoiding darkening the landscape.
Summer
To draw what the tundra looks like in the summer time period from May to July is not difficult. A horizontal broken ruler shows the light gray mountain foot and the sky blue at the top. At the bottom they draw the green of the grass, among which blossoms a dryad with white petals and a yellow core.
The melting snow is accentuated by puddles, at which time the soil swampiness increases considerably. The rest of the characters the young creator adds on his own at his discretion.
Animal World
The reindeer is a native inhabitant of the tundra region. It is distinguished by a stocky and powerful body, for the correct transfer of which it should be divided into three segments, marking the croup, chest and the smallest circle of the head. The resulting figures encircled pencil, forming a basic outline.
When coloring, do not forget that the tail and the area under the neck is white. The main wealth of the beast - branching horns, on the limbs bifurcated hooves that help him to get food and not to fall into the swampy ground.
One can reproduce a single standing or running animal or a whole herd of grazing deer with cubs. The rugged terrain is also home to lemming mice, wolves, squirrel hare, partridges, owls, and peregrine falcons.
Eider duck.
The bird will be perched on the water surface, bobbing on the waves. Draws a figure 2, which has a short neck. This is a schematic representation of the head. The duck's torso is elongated, and the forehead has a peculiar bright orange outgrowth.
Fix an eye with a squint and flattened black wings. The bird has a distinctive red beak, a whitish goiter and a greenish under-eye design. These are very bright and colorful feathered birds.
Arctic fox .
Thinking about how to draw the animals of the tundra, you can refer to the image of an animal that looks like a fox. The oval is the back part, a small circle is the future muzzle. Combine the body with smooth lines, adding details: a fluffy tail, paws, eyes and nose. Zigzag strokes depict the fur.
